Naturally, with only native speaking teachers, all language learning at our school takes place only through the medium of English.
The greatest influence on our thinking is the humanistic tradition in education. We believe in mobilizing the active intelligence of the learner, not in the model ofactive teacher - passive learner (or full vessel-empty vessel) still so prevalent in education. Specifically we draw on:
- The Silent Way tradition inspired by Caleb Gattegno - students should first speak and think, and then have a written record, reversing the normal process -write-learn-use.
- The more rigorous aspects of the Communicative Approach - students should use especially new vocabulary in interactive situations, so that it ‘lives’ immediately, and is not left ‘dead’ in a notebook.
Placement tests - Monday to Thursday 10 am - 5 pm, Friday 10 am - 6.30 pm.
The test lasts about 50 minutes and is free. There are 3 parts:
